| 2 1/4 cups batter. Depending on which brand/flavor of mix you use you can usually just divide it between the two pans. Sometimes it's a little too much and you need to take some out. |

I use regular styrofoam from Michaels all the time. My dad cuts it into the shapes I need with a band saw.  |

I've used color gels, (Wilton and Americolor) to paint with, but I prefer to mix them with everclear to thin them down a little. Plus the times I have just used them, they have remained sticky.
