I have one in my gallery too that I just did in June for a friend's 30th birthday. All I did was use the sports ball pans, and the cake scraps were used to form out the abs.

I always use MMF and when I need to have a black I always start with chocolate MMF. It makes it ALOT easier, and the taste is great too.

Yeah, you want to cover the sports ball pan in BC, then it says to cover with a thin layer of fondant. Don't worry if the covering is untidy because it will be hidden later under the strands of yarn. ...
