I used piping gel on the pool in my photos... didn't have any problem with the figures softening - and I used straight fondant, no gumpaste...

The crumb coat is very thin, like you said... it seals in the crumbs so that when you put the 'real' layer of icing on, you won't end up with crumbs showing through. It ... |

| I use only one cake board under each of my tiers. On SugarShack's DVD, she used 1/2" (or it was 1" - can't remember) foamcore beneath each of her tiers. You sould be fine using either. Definately u ... |
