Thank you beany for your detailed feedback...I really appreciate it.
I am most certainly proud of my work as I've pretty much learned on my own...tryout after tryout. I hope this will help boost my business, that is when my hubby is able to do his part )
Thanks! |

Gorgeous! Beautiful! Be very proud of yourself!!!
My only comment would be that everything I put my cursor over would start flashing. I'm not an epileptic, but I thought I was going to start seizing. (I have a friend who is, and this is the sort of thing we'd tell her to close her eyes if we spotted it first!)
Also, I wish I could find a way to 'play' the cakes so they'd just go like a slideshow instead of clicking on them individually. Maybe I missed something?
I too am a huge fan of your homepage cake! And I love the draping on the one with the fresh pink roses on top.........all beautiful! |

I think your site is stunning.. an absolute beatiful creation.
Now I have done PC support for over 7 years, let me tell you the flash can get you into a tight spot. 2006 it is but there is still a remarkeable large population that has older or less advanced PC's. Or just plain are internet paranoid and arent going to download something just because. You will want to keep the site you have and maybe add an option for no flash or users without broadband. This will ensure you dont turn away customers who simply cant see your site. This in the end will just be a precaution for your less internet happy customers. In business you have to cover all your bases.
Other than that I think its amazing, wonderful work..you are going to go far. |

I'm so glad I checked cakecentral today and got to see your site! It's so beautiful! Tell your husband he did a wonderful job on it. My son has been working on a new site for me so I know how much work it is. Yours is very professional and rivals any NYC decorators that I have visited. I'm so glad you put the bible cake on there, that is so amazing, some day I'll have to make one for goody night. Not sure that I could pull it off like you did though. |

My husband just told me last night that he was going to have this option added to the site for the same reason you explained. The last thing I want is for future clients to be turned off!
Thanks!
And Kate, I'm sure you'll be able to pull it off! Patience and much practice.

Flash is pretty much at that can't live without stage.
I too say to those who don't have flash...oh give it up and join the modern web age! |
I hate flash. I am strongly tempted to exit any site which opens with a useless time-wasting flash sequence.
I'll just quote Jacob Nielson, useability guru:
"About 99% of the time, the presence of Flash on a website constitutes a usability disease. Although there are rare occurrences of good Flash design (it even adds value on occasion), the use of Flash typically lowers usability. In most cases, we would be better off if these multimedia objects were removed.
Flash tends to degrade websites for three reasons: it encourages design abuse, it breaks with the Web's fundamental interaction principles, and it distracts attention from the site's core value." |

I too am a Jacob Nielson fan.
Lose the flash, or make it more user friendly. It's a really good site but clicking on the pictures is cumbersome. You click on something and expect it to appear. Instead they all fly away and you're left sitting thinking, where did it go? Then it comes up, but it takes too long.
Then there is no way to get back to the gallery without starting over. (Assuming a person can figure this out.)
I like flash, but it has to work very well in order for people to not get annoyed and/or bored.
The website itself is adorable! |

Huh. I thought there was some kind of odd download (this is polite for "virus") trying to happen, weird icon, weird screen behavior. |

I'm sure most people on here are Windows users so I thought I'd let you know that on a Mac OS 10, the flash didn't work so well. I have DSL and the computer is pretty new but it took a lot longer to look at the cake photos than on the Windows NT LAN system I have work. I was still willing to stay because I knew something was suppose to come up but after a while the site started locking up my computer
I love the site though, but not sure about the flash. |
