We would like to clean up the galleries and have been in the process of removing duplicate photos. You can help by looking at your own photos and deleting all duplicates. Please remember the Cake Central Duplicate Photo Policy which states:
Duplicate photos are not allowed.
You may upload 1 photo of a cake and choose the most appropriate photo gallery for that 1 photo. On occasion its OK to upload a different angle of your cake, but we prefer you only do that if it the other photo shows entirely different details of the cake, that are not visible at all in the other photo. Please try and limit any "different" angle photos to just 1, that way there are not more than 2 photos in the gallery of the 1 cake.
This means that in almost all cases only one photo of a cake should be posted. A second photo is only allowed if it shows completely different details not seen in the first photo. The newest cake uploads are being checked and duplicates deleted almost daily so please, don’t reload a cake photo that you think has “disappeared”. If it was a duplicate, it was removed.
If you have duplicate photos with favorites that the system will not allow you to remove, you may post the link to the cake picture here or PM me and it will be removed.
This rule really makes the galleries nicer to browse and gives everyone’s cakes a chance to be seen. Thank you for all your help.

I have a suggestion...I think the policy regarding duplicate pics is too much open to individual interpretation...people's idea of "different angle, different details" will vary greatly. I would recommend that the policy be only one picture of a cake period...if there are various angles and details that a poster feels should be highlighted they should create a pic collage and post that. Maybe in the posting rules there could be a link to instructions to creating a simple collage in "paint" which is a program most computers already have.
Don't mean to ruffle feathers...just my humble opinion. But in my experience, if there is a rule that is open to interpretation nobody seems to ever be satisfied.

Yeah, Lori, the rule seems to be "If you give an inch, they take a mile."
I agree. One cake, one photo. No discussions. Then it's fair to everyone. I also like the collage suggestion. And there is always the option to PM the creator to ask about other details.

I don't think it's necessarily that people are taking a mile so much as in they don't read the fine print to begin with.

I think a lot of people don't read the print at all, small or otherwise, and that is a large part of the problem...then there are those who don't believe the rules apply to them.

I have a wedding cake where the toppers are different, but the same cake. Is there a way for me to merge the two photos and for the faves to keep the new one???

I'm finding it absolutely amazing that with all this discussion and posting about duplicates not allowed, so many are still being posted, one yesterday had four views! Two on the home page at this moment!
Definitely one of my biggest pet peeves too, the fact that so many people just do not pay attention!

Thank you!!! Could you please post how to delete, I have my crab cookies that I accidentally put on 2 times that I would like to delete and also a super fugly coconut cake that I made that I turned into a cool coconut cake but only after I put the dud on CC.
Thanks for cleaning house, much needed. I agree that 1 photo per cake, although there are some cakes that almost need a side view, my penguin cake has a side view that seems to be as popular as the front shot, so I won't delete it unless you all want me to?

I agree veejay it is just unbelievable. But it has been proven that the majority of people won't actually read instructions. I think it needs to be short and simple:
**STOP--READ THIS
YOU MAY POST ONLY ONE PHOTO PER CAKE OR COOKIE**
I'm not sure how to clarify the thing about the cookie but I have seen people post 5+ photos of their cookies because they did them in multiple colors?!? Put all the color variations in one picture.
I love CC and I think it provides a wonderful venue for all of the creative sugar artists of the world. I think we all have a responsibility to keep it a wonderful place to visit. Part of this responsibility is to follows the rules...they are there for a reason.

My question is what happens to people who may have one of the duplicates in their favorites? Does it just disappear from the gallery?

I think the idea of creating a collage is a great one. I have often wanted to post more than one pic of a cake that I thought turned out really well, but I just have to compare and compare until one jumps out over the other. I have no idea how to create a collage but I can probably figure it out if someone posts a link to the instructions- hint hint
