This is so strange!!

I just tried to upload a picture of a cake that I made this weekend. I am getting an error message that it is a duplicate picture that I have uploaded before. But...the file that it lists as the file that I am trying to upload is not the name of any file that I recognize!! I never have made anything that at all resembles this cake. I just took the pictures two days ago and this is the first time I have been on Cake Central since I took the pictures, so I am at a total loss.

I understand why pictures have to be deleted and I have had some of mine deleted without me asking for them to be deleted they were pictures of different angles of my cake no more the 2 picture and not all my cakes but as I look though the gallery I see some people have 2,3 even 4 pictures of the same cake is this rule for everyone or just certain people? just curious

I think it may be time for some clarification on a few topics. This is my effort to try to get everyone to post just one picture of each cake as well as make you aware of some of the things I have run across in the galleries.

1. Please try to take pictures of your cakes from an angle that shows the top and the side. It is a waste to put one picture from directly above the cake and one from the side when both can be seen with a picture taken from a good angle.

2. If you have multiple fondant figures, try to put several in one shot. Again, it seems such a waste to post a picture of the whole cake and then 7 pictures of each fondant figure before or after they are placed on the cake.

This goes for cookies, candies and cupcakes too. Several varieties of cookies or candies in one shot are better than each cookie done individually. For instance, if you have a tray of chocolate and a tray of vanilla cupcakes, put one of each in a shot instead of individually or posting a picture of a whole tray of cupcakes decorated exactly alike.

3. If you have multiple cakes for a party or wedding, choose to post all the cakes at once or individually, not both.

4. Posting the same photo to a different gallery is not allowed. The rules clearly state that you should choose the best gallery for a photo, not post a picture in every gallery it qualifies for

5. Remember, the rules state, one photo of each cake. Multi-sided cakes can have at most 2 photos (but that is rare). No cake needs to 3 or 4 or 9 pictures of it and these will be removed.

6. No photos that include the faces of people.

7. No photos of kitchen equipment, your favorite doll, grandma's rocking chair or grandma!

8. Photos should be of edible art, not ceramic.

9. And please remember, if your photos disappear, it is most likely that they have been removed because of a violation of the rules. Please, do not repost them. There is no way to PM everyone whose photos are being removed. There are just too many of them. If you have a problem or question, please PM me before reloading pictures.

I do see an improvement in that fewer duplicates are being uploaded daily. I think everyone is doing a much better job sticking to the one photo rule. I'm just hoping that we can spread the word a little more to those who still keep posting duplicates and those whose galleries need some cleaning up.

I think the 1 photo rule is a great idea myself. I would rather look at 1 entry & see all sides than have to search for several entrys to get an idea of the entire cake looks like.
I personally have to admit that I do not know how to create a collage so hopefully we can get instructions on how to do this....
Maybe it would be an idea to have this available at the time you are posting a pic?

That is a great idea!! Although instructions have been posted all over CC, not everyone (especially newcomers) would know where to find them, or that such an option even exists. Why not have them posted on the upload page? Thumbs Up!

First, the rule is not 2 pictures, it is one picture per cake.

To answer your question, the rule is for everyone. That is why we have posted this thread. There is no way the moderators themselves can clean up all the duplicates. We are asking that members clean their own galleries. Hopefully there will be a day when you will see no duplicates but that will not happen unless everyone takes care of their own galleries and follows the rules.

Maybe I'm the only one but I kind of like the duplicate photos. I guess I'm speaking about only the cookie photos because that's what I'm interested in and that's what I make. I love it when people take a shot of all of the cookies and then another photo of a close up one with details. Both of those photos offer something different. If I don't want to view more than one of the photos, I just don't click on the thumbnail of it. I can see the other side of the equation as well but I personally like the duplicate photos in most cases.

Okay, I have yet another question for you KathysCC!! Back in the old days Wink if you changed your cake picture, all of your comments would be lost. Is that different now? I.e. if you go into your photo and choose "edit photo" and upload a collage to replace the original, does it boot the whole page of comments and favorites and you start from scratch? I think it used to delete your description too. Maybe this was fixed before you joined, but I've always been afraid to touch any of my cake pics (even if I found a better shot later, say) because I thought that editing them would wipe out my comments. Do you know? Thanks!

Okay, I have another one. Am I allowed to vent? Please?

.....

Oh good thanks.

I can't tell you the number of times I have seen a duplicate posted with this "I know I'm not supposed to post more than one photo but....."

Then WHY are you doing it???

Guys, I love looking at all your cakes. I spend way too much time here looking at cakes, but one is enough. Let me put this another way for you in case you don't know. Each day, there are 2 to 7 pages of cakes uploaded on CC. That is 100 to over 300 cake pictures. If everyone starts fudging on the rules because they think their cake is more special than everyone else's then where does that put us.

We all love our cakes but ANYTIME I've wanted to copy someone's cake and needed more detail, I PM'ed them. You can't post every tiny detail and side of a cake. Even the simplest cakes would need 10 pictures. Let's keep it in perspective.

I left CC for 2 hours and came back and there are 4 duplicates on the last upload page!!! Who is being unfair, the people following the rules or the people disregarding them and doing whatever they want?

Thanks, I feel better now.

ceshell, I'm afraid that that might still happen although I don't think you lose your comments, just your description and gallery. I haven't tried to edit one of mine since that happened to me on one of my cake pics. I believe after the new servers are stable, that they are going to upload some new software that will fix bugs like that. Until then, I'm not editing my old photos.

removing duplicates will help the gallery supporters as we are trying to have comments for every photo. Kinda difficult to comment if it's same cookie, different color.

Maybe the comment on the second photo should be: remove this duplicate photo ASAP - please! And please remove any additional duplicates from your "My Photos" as well.

wow. i just looked up someone's album and they had FIVE pictures of different angles on ONE cake. as many details as there were... THAT WAS ANNOYING!

i think there should be something posted in regards to that one pic limit on the upload page... in neon lights.... right underneath where it says maximum size allowed.

can i msg the offender's name to u? LOL
