Momkiksbutt, I think the problem here is that although I agree in principal that your request is "reasonable," I realize in practice that with over a quarter of a million photos to go thru in the galleries, it's too much for us to expect the moderators to PM each person who has posted a non-qualifying "alternate angle" to let them know their pic doesn't qualify and is going to be deleted. It makes my head spin to think about how impossible that task would be, to PM each of these people, wait for a response, then go back and follow up each PM'd pic to see if there was a response and then "make a decision" to delete or not to delete (when they've been instructed simply to delete regardless). All in their donated time.
On TOP of already doing "due diligence" by comparing the multiple pics in an effort to keep the one with the most favorites (which she said she does) in order to TRY to please the person whose pic is deleted. What if one pic has 18 faves but 3 comments, the other has 5 faves but 20 comments? At the risk of appearing to speak for him, I doubt Heath would contact each CCer to make a personal inquiry about which photo to delete, and I don't think he would authorize the mod's to do it, so they have to try their best to pick the right one in the given moment.
I can absolutely positively understand your frustration, I would be pretty upset too if it had happened to me without warning (although, the warning has been on the homepage since mid-May). I agree there is definitely some poor wording on the upload page which states "Duplicate photos are not allowed" - you're right, sometimes a pic is not a duplicate, it's just the same cake! But it does go on to elaborate that "You may upload 1 photo of a cake and choose the most appropriate photo gallery for that 1 photo. On occasion its OK to upload a different angle of your cake, but we prefer you only do that if it the other photo shows entirely different details of the cake, that are not visible at all in the other photo. Please try and limit any "different" angle photos to just 1, that way there are not more than 2 photos in the gallery of the 1 cake."
-->Then again, that last part is totally vague! "Please try and limit" does NOT clearly state that you'll lose your pics if you don't follow the rules. This thread does, but the upload page should reflect that IMHO. It should state something like "alternate views that are not in compliance with the stated CC rules may be deleted without any notification." That of course is not in KathysCC's control though, maybe someone should PM Heath to see if that small change in wording can be made, to avoid further heartache for people?
Please don't misunderstand and think I'm trying to say "Oh well, rules are rules," I don't know anything about your pics that were deleted and whether or not they fit the qualification for alternate angles allowed and should have been left alone. I guess the big question is just, is KathysCC really being as careless and cavalier as you think, and I don't really think that is true. There are just limits to what she should be expected to do in order to enforce this CC rule. IMHO again.
Sorry to ramble on, I hate to see people here upset with each other, I just thought I might try to examine the situation from both sides.
I understand where momkiksbutt is coming from I had pictures on here that were close ups of flowers that were on some of my cakes now the cake is their but the flowers pictures are gone (they were deleted) and you really can’t make out the flowers on the cakes (those pictures were posted in the gum paste flower area) these pictures where in peoples favorites and they had comments on them Why were these deleted? Now I have only one page of pictures In the gallery I don’t post every cake that I make but when I go to some of these galleries I see some people with pages of pictures why can’t some of those people delete some of the older pictures in there gallery if posting is the problem, why don’t this forum put a limit as to what can be in each member’s gallery. Once you reach that limit you know some of your pictures are getting ready to be deleted and you know that either you need to delete them, By that time you know to make copies of comments suggestions or any other things you need to do with these picture I think that would be fair I mean look some members have pages where as some members have only one. Just a suggestion
Duplicate as defined in the dictionary is as follows:

I opened my gallery today to find that I have lost pictures of a shower cake with tons of comments and helpful hints and advise from other's as well as my own to answer questions from other CC'ers...NONE OF WHICH WERE DUPLICATES!!!!
They may have been on the same cake subject, but none were duplicates!!
Kathy.....you are ruining our forums with your thoughtless and discompassionate tactics...before you remove another picture from anyone elses gallery, you need to send out a PM to the person or persons that you think may have a duplicate and make sure that you are ok to do so in the first place.
I have chosen not to PM you about this because of your callus and "devil may care" attitude about other peoples alike thoughts on the same subject. You wouldn't like it if someone acted that way with you, so don't presume that it is ok for you do it to anyone else.
My pictures are now lost to my gallery, and I can never retreive the nice comments or helpful advise that I have often referred back to in doing other projects. Also, I've had several people ask me what happened to the progression shots of that cake that they were looking for it making one themselves to see how it was put together....shame on you.........

Sorry to butt in since I don't feel my cakes are up to anyones standards here but what about the photos that are decorated EXACTLY the same just different tops. I see some people who decorate their cakes exactly the same just have different reasone (ie. bday, graduation, baby shower) only change is the color of the accents and pic and writing? Does that make it a different cake?

well i've been gone from CC for sometime as my oven had died months ago and viewing all these lovely creations here was like salt to a wound. i still cannot afford to replace my oven yet but i returned to help out another decorator who was a professional and just returned to decorating for her daughters wedding.. but i digress.. so this is the first time i saw the notice about the pics and yes many of mine were removed before i had a chance to do it myself- as i've just removed a few on my own accord..
my question is this. since we're being restricted now to just one pic- with the exception of once in a while a 2nd-
are we allowed to make mention of more views of pics being hosted on another website?
before i found cake central i uploaded my cake pics on photobucket so i could send to family and friends. .. if asked or allowed can we post a link to our album that has more views?
i would hate to post it and inadvertently make another mistake.

Newbie question. I used Picasa to make a collage of a few cakes (multiple angles) but it is one picture and very small mb, is that okay? If it is, you might want to suggest that people utlize Picasa (it is free) AND the collage actually is smaller mb than the single photo was!

I'm GUILTY! I apologize profusely. I put a second because I thought the first was blurry but the second was taken off and then I realized what happened. I should have deteted the first and then resubmitted. Sorry, sorry, sorry. :*( Won't happen again. It really was not intentional.
I have been gone for 8 weeks due to a family matter, I have come home for 2 weeks then will be leaving again....I came on CC to check things out and send out some PM's to friends.
I went to check my photo's and there are 2 missing, one of the photo's I understand missing, (Hannah Montana cakes). The one cake had 2 pics, one was of the cake only, the other was the cake setup with the matching cc's...so I can understand why one of those is gone. I did try to delete the one photo myself, but couldn't.
The second Hannah Montana cake was not decorated the same as the first, the colors may have been the same and they both had lights on them...but they were not decorated the same.
My question is... are only one photo of a theme cake allowed or could the photo of the other Hannah Montana got removed by mistake? Just asking so I understand and don't make a mistake again when uploading photos.
