I made MMF for the first time! Should have done it sooner!
How can I color it so it is really red?
I have used quite a bit of Wilton's no taste red, but it is still pink. I am trying to make a Bertie Bott's bag of every flavor beans cake to take to a Harry Potter party in honor of the movie coming out tomorrow.
Any help is really appreciated! THANKS! |

Have you tried mixing in the color while the marshmallows are in liquid for right out of the microwave? It is easier to color then.

Unfortunatly alot of folks have the same problem with the Wilton red. I finally took some good advice from this board and got some Americolor Red. I will never go back. It is great stuff!
But for now, since I am assuming you don't have any on hand, mixing the no taste red and the christmas red to as dark as you can get it and letting it sit for a few hours is your best bet I think. The colors always deepen alittle as they sit.
Any one else with good advice?? |

The only advice I can offer is to color a little at a time. If you only need a small amount, don't color more than you have to. It will take forever! (And invest in Americolor for next time) |

It takes me about half of the wilton no- taste red and half of the red-red for one whole batch of mmf ...then I usually let it sit for a while so it can deepen. I have run out of red and usually have to run to walmart in the middle of the night to make it so i know that it works but Americolor does work better. |

I agree that Americolor works much better to get dark colors. I finally got some this week. I colored MMF red for my boxing glove and i used way less than I would have with Wilton. I would've like mine a little darker now that I look at the picture. Last time i tried to get MMF red, I had to use a whole jar of Wilton. |

I suggest leaving it the color you have it and painting it once the cake is done with dry color and lemon extract. You will get a really nice finish and it will deepen the color you have and make it red. |
