A group of us decided to make a cake for our friend's 16th birthday. This isn't new to us since we've made cakes before, including our most spectacular achievement, another birthday cake which was excessively green (by intention).
This time however we decided to branch out and try our hands at a carrot cake. After searching the internet we found a suitable recipe. Fairly easy, not so quick. We were assured that it was easy enough for monkeys...
Two of us were sent of to grate the carrots. After a while we were slightly unnerved by the smell of garlic, but the owner of the house assured us this was perfectly normal, because of the use of it last night. After a slow realisation, we found that the grater itself had been used to grate garlic and had not been washed. The carrots were tainted with garlic. Not to mention we used to wrong side of the grater and the carrots were too big.
While this was happening. another group of us made the cakey bit. In a rush of excitement we put the margarine, still hard from the fridge, straight into the egg mix. A lumpy disaster. We next needed to add honey, but without wanting to use a measuring jug (for obvious reasons-sticky), we estimated the amount we needed. To smoothen the mix we had to put it in both the blender and liquidiser before we settled with a slightly smoother batter.
We sifted the flour, and one person put nutmeg in it. We were happy with this bit of the cake, and perhaps in our excitement forgot that the nutmeg was already added. So another spoon was added.
Finally we put it in the oven, and left it. An hour later we took it out, and promptly dropped it on the floor, breaking both the cake and the tin. All our hardwork is now a squidgy orange mass in the kitchen, yet to be tasted...to be honest I don't think it'll be tasted at all.

I'm sorry your cake got dropped, but I would have had fun to being able to hang out and bake with someone. Good Luck on the next one.

I'm sooooo sorry your cake didn't turn out. But your post brighted my evening. Maybe you could turn garlic carrot cake into a specialty flavor.
..would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for the cake making experience! LOL!! Sorry it didn't turn out though!!

It's good practice to wash utensils before using them. Even though you think they Are clean it eliminates these types of mistakes.

I'm just really sorry, but I'm cracking up!! Certainly sounds like something that I would have done when I first started baking when I was in high school! Good luck on the next one!
