I have been using Duncan Hines white cake mix for a while now. I mix them with Dream whip and they usually come out great. Lately they have not been rising. Today, my cake actually fell. I might as well have been trying to make a pancake. That's what they look like anyway. I don't think it is my oven temp. I baked another cake right after and it came out fine.
The problem is just with my white cakes. Does anyone have any advice?
Would I have better luck with a white cake from scratch?
maybe it's the dream whip...maybe it's eracting wierd with the mix this time..try making jsut the mix with a vanilla pudding or just plain...too see if it's the mix or the dream whip
I stressed over this all night. This is what I came up with. First, I did not adjust the mix for high altitude. I usually ad some extra flour to compensate. Second, I did not whip my egg whites. I know this makes a difference too.
So, for any of you out there using a mix and you live higher than sea level, adding from 1 tbs to 1/4 c of flour to your mix should help keep it from falling. This goes for any flavor if you are having that falling sensation.
