Hi All,
I know this sounds stupid. It is the first time Ive made them.
Just wondering if any knows if you can freeze sugar cookies decorated with royal icing. If not, do you think bagging in bags with keep them fresh for a week? Thanks for your help

Well Mara, I used to many years ago freeze royal icing decorated cookies in the old days when we used egg whites in royal icing. They froze and defrosted fine. I haven't since using the meringue powder to make royal icing though. My concern would be that certain colours might bleed. I think wrapping them air tight and storing in a cool dry place would be your best bet though.
I don't believe Antonia freezes her decorated cookies but you might like to Pm her and ask.

If it's a matter of saving time, you can certainly roll & cut your cookie shapes and freeze them between little pieces of waxed paper. You can then take them straight from the freezer to the oven to bake. That can be done literally a few weeks in advance.
I know that others have had no problems with freezing fully decorated cookies, but I'm too concerned about condensation and colours running to try it. I don't freeze royal icing at all.
I know that the No-Fail cookies I've done are actually surprisingly fresh tasting even 2 weeks after I've baked them...but the key is that they must be wrapped after the icing it dry. Otherwise, the butter in them starts to go rancid smelling.

I guess it depends on the recipe or colors. This past Halloween I made a ton of cookies and had no choice to freeze them b/c I thought they were too good and too pretty to let go bad. So little by little we brought a few out when we wanted them. They defrosted in a few minutes, tasted totally fresh and looked like I just decorated them! When I leave them out (under a covered cake plate) they get so hard to me they don't taste good. So I think freezing keeps them fresher longer. I wrap them (loosely) in aluminum foil and then wrap in plastic wrap before I put them in the freezer. It works for me.
