What a cute bear - I really like the black outline on cookies. It just makes them standout and look fabulous. I don't know how they choose who wins either. I was watching the show the day she aired some of the cookie pictures and she said "She could tell if they tasted good', which makes me think she is not choosing on appearance alone. |

Yea, I think the looks are only one component. It's kind of like actors going on a casting call. I thing their looking for a certain "type". |

I'm not at all surprised - just about each cookie that won looked like to either be extremely unique in presentation or in flavor / recipe. There was only one winner that I was surprised about as it looked to me like they decorated an Oreo and I thought the emphasis was on homemade creations.
What I don't understand now is the rules for the contest - they stressed ONE cookie but most of the winning entries had pictures of more than one cookie. I don't get what that rule was about! |

I think it was probably one type of cookie...or that is how I interpreted it. I did put in a picture of just one cookie, in case I was wrong. |

I didn't see the winners yet. I am on the West coast and it doesn't air until 2:00 today. I did get the impression that Martha was not looking so much for the decorated royal icing type cookies, but more of the mouth watering home-made type of cookie. She should have a contest which is only for decorated cookies! We would all love that one! |

I wasn't surprised that the main emphasis was away from the decorated cookies, but I thought there would be at least a couple more make the cut. I wasn't all that impressed with the selections, actually. There was a chocolate cookie with frosting and a cherry that I thought was not only tasty looking, but eye-catching as well, and it wasn't mentioned. I guess they knew what they were looking for....too bad the decorated cookies weren't it! |

OMG!!!!! i just went on and checked out the winners, and even the honorable mentions...congrats yankeegal and mcmama!!
i can't believe that she picked an oreo with a chocolate mouse on top. and the donkey...it may be cute, but not only is it not cuter than half of the cookies on there, but the photo was horrible!! i'm not quite sure what she was judging based on, but i think she was way off!! i tried to find somewhere to post a comment, but i couldn't find anything!!
i still think our cc cookie gals are the best!! |

They hadn't posted any of the honorable mentions when I looked...I'll have to go back and check! I figured with all the uproar over the cupcake contest that this one might go smoother. Guess not! |

Okay, I still can't find the honorable mentions or even the winners on her web site. What do I do to see them? |

Me too - I didn't see the oreo mice on the website list of winners or honorable mentions but it was on TV. That was the one that I was surprised was chosen. As cute as they were, the fact that they were store bought cookies seemed like that would have disqualified them. But, having said that, each of the winners were cookies that I could imagine seeing in one of Martha's books. She's really big on flavor and most of the winners did make my mouth water. And she's big on holidays and celebrations, too. The partridge in a pear tree did look like a decoration that could have come from her very own house. So, on the whole, I really am not surprised by the winners at all even if there were quite a few others that I would have chosen, too! I am very partial to all of the decorated cookies, that's for sure!
I STILL think, though, that the one cookie rule made no sense and no matter how it was interpreted, it doesn't seem to have mattered with the judging, anyway.
Congratluations to all of you winners! I'd buy Martha's next book if it comprised all of your creations (with recipes, of course!) |

Some of the cookies looked really delicious, decorated or not, but a friend's entry was way cuter than the cat on the oreo. It was a cookie bouquet! |
