I have a request for a 50th wedding anniversary cake. They would like me to replicate their original all buttercream cake. There is a great deal of piped roses, swags, borders. It is a very traditional cake. For a cleaner look I would like to cover the cakes first in fondant then pipe on some of the detail work with buttercream. They have no objections to that.
Do any of you have any pics you can share with piped buttercream on top of fondant???
Many thanks!

I think it looks good, but you can definitely tell the difference in the two frostings...

Butter absorbs into fondant so if you decorate the day before and let it sit you may end up with bleeding or "melted" flowers. Typically it's better to go with royal on fondant.

Great job on the cake! So did you end up doing it yourself??

Thank you! No, I wound up finding a girl that had just started her business and she charged me a great price. I was happy that I didn't because I really wanted to do a groom's cake which wound up being 3 tiers! So that was a lot of work by itself...here is the grooms cake:

I thought it would be more special to do a surprise cake for him then do the bride cake...I was right, he loved it...here is a picture of the cake the girl did for me...not bad, but I could have saved the money and did it myself...you think?

Both cakes came out beautifully! Very clever idea for the grooms cake.

Anyone else have photos to share? Now I am thinking it might be better to use royal icing on top of the fondant.
