I bought a couple of books on clay figure making. They're helpful. |

I bought Aines tutorial for the lady (around $10 US) worth every penny! I just recently bought the right tools and a scale that allows me to measure in grams (the unit of measure in the instructions). My first attempts prior to tools and scales are the kids on the swim cake in my photos. Below is my most recent attempt still missing her grad cap and needs a touch up on her eyes and cheeks.

I have only ever used Wilton's gumpaste. I've never tried to make it myself before. I don't think it taste as bad as the fondant but I don't think many people eat it anyway. It seems to work pretty good for me. |
