My brain is fried from this weekend (still uploading pics...I promise I'll show you everything I did)...but I am too fried to figure out a new idea. My son's 5th birthday is on Wednesday and he is VERY into superheroes, especially Spider-man, Iron Man, and the Hulk. I need to take about a dozen cupcakes to his preschool class and am having trouble coming up with ideas. Anyone?? |

OK HallFamily - we were married on the same day (but different year) and now you say that your son's 5th birthday is this Wednesday - October 8th?
MY SON'S 5th Birthday is on Wednesday!
WOW!
I am making Yoda cupcakes for my Star Wars fan...thankfully, I don't have to get into other super heroes next. Whew! I am sure there are TONS of good ideas on here - good luck! |

I wish you all the luck Penny on the cuppies and I know that you will do a great job.
You too Hallfamily and I was thinking maybe you could do some gold (Ironman), some green (Hulk), and some red( Spiderman) and then maybe you could do something that represents each one like a Helment (Ironman), a muscular arm ( Hulk) and a spider ( spiderman). I don't know if that would be too much or not. HTH |

Julie-- that is soo cute! I agree with you on the colors, they are perfect with the ribbon! I can not wait to make one of these. Thinking about doing one for a friend of mine who is a candy FANATIC and her bday is at the end of October. How many KitKats did you buy? Have yall seen Sarsi's mini candy cakes? They are soo cute! |

It was A LOT of kit kats!! I dont know exactly how many. I bought a big box of them from Sams and just kept opening them til I had enough. After I cleaned everything up, I realized that I should have counted them |

ChefJulie, that looks great! Geesh! with my Granddaughter staying this week end and no post notices I really got behind on my reading!
Glad things went well Hall. I'd like to get your pumpkin layer cake recipe! Good job on the cake. Can't wait to see the rest of the PICs.
I started another cake decorating class last night! It's not Wilton. It's a beginners because that is how you have to start but I learned a ton already! The instructor has been baking for 30 years and sharing lots of great tips! She always freezes her cakes. She says they end up more moist. |

Pumpkin Spice cake
1 package spice cake mix
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 4 oz instant vanilla pudding mix (I used pumpkin spice pudding...found at HyVee...instead. If you can't find it, vanilla will work)
1 cup canned pumpkin
8 oz sour cream
1/2 cup vegatable oil
1/2 cup water
4 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 tsp cinnamon
Pumpkin Filling
2 cups or so of buttercream frosting (your recipe)
1 8 oz block of cream cheese
Spices to taste (I used a lot of pumpkin pie spice)
3 Tbs canned pumpkin
Mix cake ingredients and bake (really simple). Cool completely before cutting. For pumpkin filling, whip together and chill for an hour before using. Ends up tasting like pumpkin pie. SO GOOD!! |
