Does anyone just use buttercream for their cookies? If you do, does it crust really well? Or will just any buttercream do?

I would like to decorate some cookies that won't be stacked so I don't need the icing to be hard. The buttercream to me would taste better. Any tips or thoughts?

I recently made valentines cookies(in my photos) & used my normal buttercream icing. I put it on, let it sit for about 2-3 minutes & ran a viva paper towel over to get it smooth. I like the taste of the buttercream on a cookie.

I just made some cookies using a recipe from this site called alices cookie icing. It was good. It dries on the outside but stays soft enough inside that it's not like royal. The only thing I must say is that since it's not royal, when your using it, don't compare it to royal. I keep thinking it looked different than royal, Duh, because it is different.
Basically it's like royal with butter.

I gave it extra time to dry before bagging, but tasted it after and it was very good.

What if you used a really good crusting buttercream? Could the cookies be stacked then? I guess I should just make some and test it... I'm going to try the Alice icing too! Sounds yummy Smile

If you aren't going to stack Alice's is a good choice.
