Well, as many of you probably know, thanks to my MANY questions, I had an order for 26 cakes that were due this past Saturday. What an adventure! I'm so thankful for everyone's help. I thought I'd share my week with you all, so if you ever consider doing something this crazy you will know what you are getting yourself into...
Sunday...did my grocery shopping. 26 cake mixes, 15 bags of powdered sugar, and on and on....
Monday...sister came to watch the kids and I had her cut out all the round cake boards. I made my 26 batches of bc (with my hand mixer) and divided into three colors...white, blue, and turquiouse. My hand hurt, but all went well. Good start....
Tuesday...sister came over after work and then I got started on baking. Needed 26 2-layer, 6 inch round cakes. Had four pans which would all fit in the oven at once (yeah). However, should have had 8 pans as once the cakes came out, I had to let them cool for ten minutes, cut off the tops (I'm making cake balls for the first time ever today thanks to all those tops), and then flip them out....could have had cakes in the oven instead of waiting for pans so that held me up some. Thought I'd get all my baking done in one day, but it didn't happen. Only got about half way done. Of course, my daughter got sick at school and I had to go pick her up...that drama didn't help my time slot. Also made a batch of RBC that day (and then never ended up using).
Wednesday...more baking. Decided to start icing cakes that morning. No sitter until 3 so didn't get much accomplished. Managed to get the cakes almost baked (needed only 4 more) and four cakes completely done. Took a picture of cake number one.
Thursday...no sitter until 5 pm. Tried my hardest to get cakes decorated but didn't get far. Was so tired of baking left the last four until the next day. Ran out of gas on the way home from picking kids up from school (which was also the same day my daughter threw a kicking a screaming fit when I dropped her off...another thread in the lounge). Thankfully we only live a couple blocks from school so could easily walk home.
Friday...No school so all three kids were home which was okay since oldest son (age 5) was willing to entertain the baby (I had to pay him $1...pretty good deal). Daughter (age 4) was really clingy but still managed to get some work done. Baked the last 4 cakes, and was a decorating machine. Actually finished the cakes by 9 pm and could take my kids to bed. Realized I didn't have pictures and decided to take them in the morning.
Saturday...due date. No more time...had to figure out how we were going to get myself, hubby, three kids, and 26 cakes in the mini van for our hour and a half drive. We managed. Got about 8 miles from home and some idiot (I don't believe in name calling, but when you are carrying 26 cakes and someone pulls out, idiot is nice) pulls out in front of us...hubby is forced to slam on brakes. We just keep going...will have to deal when we get there. Make the drive, start unloading and thankfully (thank you, God) all cakes are fine. Get them all set up and get ready to enjoy the day. Realize still no pictures and no camera. Well, I have my cell phone. Will get some shots after the wedding that was about to begin. Nice ceremony on the beach...reception there as well. Getting lots of compliments on my cakes...my head is getting bigger by the minute...they start passing cake knifes around the tables...all my hard work being cut into...oh shot...no pictures
To sum it up...it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. A few things could have made it easier...a stand mixer, more cake pans, a live in nanny and maid. When all was said and done, it was fun. I kept my kitchen cleaned as I was going along, but the rest of the house looks like a tornado has swept through and my laundry baskets are overflowing with dirty clothes. I'm extremely disappointed that I didn't get pictures, except for the one I took of the first cake I decorated (which I will try to post...never posted pictures before so will see happens). That's my biggest upset...no pictures I am, however, glad it's over!!

Congratulations to you for getting it all done! I have never done that many, but I can sympathize with the hand mixer ordeal! I just got my KA 2 weeks ago, and it has been my saviour!

Having a stand mixer is also a BIG time saver, you can leave it on while you do something else in the kitchen.
I leave my cakes cool in the pan for about 5 minutes since I line all my pans with parchment paper on the bottom. (grease, line w/ the paper, grease the paper, fill pan with batter) Makes flipping them out much easier.
Congratulations on saving your sanity in the process.
You may want to talk to the bride and grab the name of the photographer she used. I'm sure the photographer had enough common sense to take a picture of most of the cakes on the table.

Wow...I'm exhausted just reading about it. You should be so proud...all those cakes and 3 kids. Wow!
That's a good idea...I will definitely talk to the bride and see if there are some pictures. Five days of work..I'd like to have some photos!!
The bride was saying the same thing "she's the one who made the cakes..and she has three kids". I'm so used to my kids always being there so I don't think about them "adding to the mess", but I guess they do! It would have been easier without them around, but I'm used to everything being hectic!
