I have made a minor adjustment to the contest photo galleries.
The username will no longer show underneath the image while the contest is running. Once the contest is over, the usernames will re-appear.
There was some earlier discussion that brought up some valid points about the contests being "popularity" contests, and not cake decorating contests. Simply put... a lot of you voiced your opinions that you felt some cake entries were getting lots of votes because they were either moderators of this site, or had made more personal connections with other cakecentral members because they have been here longer.
Because each cakes gets literally thousands of individual votes, and they are all so close, I really do not think this is the case at all. However, because so many members of the community have felt very strongly about this, and it is a topic that comes up often, I felt it merited this small change.

Thanks for clearing that up.
A new question I had is regarding something I noted in the current Purple Cake contest. I happened to click on the "top rated" and "most views" and see that some have already hundreds of votes and a rating. I'm guessing those were cakes that have been in the other gallerys for a long time and were just moved over. But I wanted to check and find out how those old ratings/votes won't be counted in this current contest.

Whenever a cake photos is entered into a contest the votes are set to 0.
None of the cakes in the current contest will show in the "top rated" area.
Unless there is a duplicate photo in a different photo gallery. In which case, that photo should be deleted for organization purposes, however any votes to other categories will not be applied to the contest.

You did a great job Jackie!!! I'm happy you stopped putting the names of who did the cakes. What about when people crop their names on their pics? I've already seen a few in the contest like that. To tell you the truth I can reconize a lot of people's cakes even with no names. LOL~ I think it's just because I'm a addict! I know all of the oldies & their styles. Good job Jackie~ I'm hoping I will have time to do a cake this time since PURPLE is my fav color too!!

I am a newbie here and would like to know how to find out about the cake contests. I cant find the area to look to find out when the next contest is and what the theme is. Can someone help me?

When Jackie has a contest post on the site, it's usually on the home page to the top left of your screen. Currently there isn't one up as the Christmas contest just ended. I'm sure Jackie is thinking of a new one to put up ... Watch for it soon!!
